The Road Not Taken: Stories of Jaywalkers

These pictures were taken at a junction of Jalan Pandan Indah. The signal lights of both ‘stop’ and ‘walk’ alight at the same time. How will the pedestrians think about it? Walk or not? Let you all think about it when you see such a situation when the time to cross the road cut short too. For sure, some people will just cross over no matter how danger the road is? ‘Fly’ over the road even though will high heel shoes and skirts. Nice scene though.
Justify Full
Let’s have a survey on a few people about the signal lights and the road crossing of Jalan Pandan Indah.

Mr. A:
“Aiya! You know I am a busy man or not? Need to rush for work. No time to look at the signal at all. Run quickly then safe already la.”

Ms. E:
“Of course I will wait for the pedestrian light change green and cross. Later on, my hair will ruffle. Some more if start to sweat, it will destroy my make-up.”

Mrs. I:
“你知不知道我家里,大大小小都要我来照顾吗?出去一下,家里变成动物园一样。在慢一点,我家里肯定好像龙卷风打倒那样。所以要过马路,我不管三七二十一,看到没有车就快快跑过对面咯!”
“Do you know that my house have adults and children that I need to take care of? Went out for a while only already causes the house became like Zoo Park. If late a bit, sure the house will be like tornado had struck my house. To cross the road, I won’t care about anything; if without cars, I will just cross the road quickly without delay.”

Auntie O:
“Aiyo! Amma! Idup misti mau jaga baik-baik la. Mana ada olang tamau idup punya? Jalan misti tengok tulu. Saya ah suda tarak apa-apa kalau madi. Muda-muda suda mau madi, apa macam?”
“Aiyo! Amma! Life must be treasured properly. Where got humans do not want their lives? When cross the road must be careful. If I died, I don’t mind but those youngsters wanted to die – what to do?”

Tuk U:
“Kadang –kadang atuk pun tengok jalan tapi kadang-kadang tidak sebab atuk mahu lintasi jalan pun tidak sempat sebab atuk dah tua. Tak dapat nak jalan cepat. Kalau tidak dapat, atuk angkat tongkat sambil melintas”
“Sometimes I will look on the traffic but sometimes I don’t because when I wanted to cross the road, I don’t have enough opportunity due to my old age. I can’t walk any faster. If I couldn’t cross, I just take up my walking stick and cross.”

There you have it. From all 3 races in Malaysia – from old and young. Never-the-less, it has proved that Malaysia’s traffic problem have many places to be replace or restructure.
